Kippah Kids

Let's talk about something cool and special called a Kippah or Yarmulke. It's a cute, little round hat that some G-dly people wear. You might see them wearing it all the time or just at the synagogue. It's a big part of showing love and respect for God. It's like wearing a special badge that says, "I remember G-d is always with me!"

In the Bible, a man named Paul wrote a letter to a group of people in a place called Corinth. He talked about how men and women should look when they pray to G-d. He told them about how it's respectful to G-d to look as He made you. If you were a girl, you should look like you are proud to have been made as a girl with long hair. And if you were a boy, you should look like you are proud to be made as a boy with short hair. It was all about showing G-d respect in the way you looked and appreciating G-d for the loving way that He made you.

Long ago, Jewish ladies who were married would cover their hair with something like a scarf. It was a sign that they were married, kind of like a wedding ring today. If they didn't cover their hair, it was like not wearing their wedding ring, and that wasn't good. It was almost like saying "I'm married, but I'm embarrassed." So Paul urged women to cover up their hair and help their husbands feel honored.

What about the Kippah though!? When boys and men wear it, it's like having a little reminder on their head that G-d is looking out for them. In the temple, the priests had to wear head coverings when doing service to G-d, and in our homes, we are like little priests who also give our services to G-d. Like when we say blessings, eat, and do good things for others, we are like mini-priests and our home is like a mini-temple, and our table is like a mini-altar. Just like the priests wore a big head covering, we (as mini priests) can wear a mini-covering! How cool is that?!

The Kippah is like wearing a superhero cape but instead of a cape, it's a hat on your head! If you see someone with a kippah, or they see you, they instantly know you're on G-d's team! But just like the famous superhero quote says, "With great power comes great responsibility," we must remember that we are representing God! Every action we take and every word we say carries great power, and the Kippah is a reminder of that responsibility. If you wear the Kippah, you need to also behave like G-d wants you to, because the Kippah says, "I'm on G-d's team" but also "I'm following what G-d wants me to do!"

If Yeshua were here today, he would also wear a Kippah because He loved and respected G-d so much! Wearing a Kippah can be a way to show you want to be like our Rebbe Yeshua and love G-d just as much as he did.

So, if you ever see someone wearing a Kippah, it's their special way of saying hello to G-d all day long. And when you're ready to wear one, you can too!
