Founded in 2023, the Orthodox Messianic Union (OMU) stands as the largest organization representing the Rabbinic and Orthodox Messianic community globally. OMU unites a growing network of Jews and Gentiles who recognize Yeshua (Jesus) as the Messiah ben Yosef (Messiah of Joseph) while steadfastly adhering to Orthodox Jewish Halachah in its entirety.

Through its educational and media branch, AltarnateMedia, OMU offers courses, articles, books, and other resources to foster understanding and learning for those interested in exploring this unique perspective.

Our Mission

The Orthodox Messianic Union exists to create a unified, supportive network for communities living in alignment with Orthodox Judaism while embracing the role of Yeshua as a precursor in the redemptive process. Central to OMU's mission is a commitment to:

  • Halachic Faithfulness: Upholding the principles of Torah and mitzvot as interpreted through Rabbinic tradition.

  • Messianic Understanding: Viewing Yeshua as fulfilling the prophetic role of Messiah ben Yosef, paving the way for the ultimate redemption under Messiah ben David.

  • Community Growth: Providing a framework for learning, collaboration, and mutual support within the Rabbinic Messianic community.

OMU serves as a hub for strengthening Jewish continuity, fostering teshuvah (repentance), and supporting the global process of tikkun olam (repairing the world).

Addressing Common Questions

  1. Why Don’t Rabbinic Messianics Become Christians? Rabbinic Messianics remain firmly rooted in Orthodox Judaism, rejecting Greek and Hellenistic approaches to the text, which results in concepts like the Trinity, original sin, and substitutionary atonement. Instead, we see Yeshua as a historical figure within Jewish eschatology whose mission aligns with Torah principles.

  2. How Do Rabbinic Messianics Differ from Messianic Jews or Hebrew Roots?

Unlike other 'messianic' movements which primarily stem from Protestantism or Karaite ideology, Rabbinic Messianics strictly adhere to Orthodox Jewish Halachah and reject the divinity of Yeshua. Our practice and theology are deeply embedded in traditional Judaism, making us distinct from both Christian and later formed hybrid movements. It is our understanding that Yeshua was a Pharisaic Rabbi who taught people to return to the path of Pharisaic (Rabbinic) Judaism.

  3. Do Rabbinic Messianics Proselytize?

No. OMU respects the boundaries between Jews and Gentiles outlined in Torah and Halachah. Its mission is not to convert others but to provide resources and support for those seeking deeper understanding within the framework of Rabbinic Judaism.

  4. What About Sacrifices and Salvation?

Rabbinic Messianics view Yeshua’s death & resurrection as a moral and spiritual act inspiring teshuvah, rather than a substitutionary sacrifice akin to ancient pagan human/child sacrifices. Sacrifices remain a Torah commandment and will be reinstated when the Third Temple is built. Salvation (or drawing closer to Hashem) has always been and always will be based in faith and living out that faith in Hashem.
